Some of Rep. Lanning's 2009-10 Initiatives

Morrie authored legislation helping to secure state funding for:

  • Red River flood damage reduction project mitigation;
  • Flood damages to public property;
  • Border city enterprise allocations;
  • A pilot program to assist individuals in moving from public assistance to self-sufficiency.

Morrie authored legislation that became law to:

  • Make it a crime and establish penalties for the possession and sale of Salvia Divinorum, a hallucinogenic substance;
  • Establish a legislative "Ladder out of Poverty" Task Force;
  • Provide mandate relief for local governments.

In his service on various Legislative Commissions and Boards, Morrie
has worked to:

  • Develop a plan to eliminate poverty in Minnesota by 2020 by helping people achieve economic self-sufficiency, build financial and developmental assets, and overcome barriers to rising out of poverty;
  • Protect and preserve the Great Lakes;
  • Plan the development of the State Capitol complex and the restoration of the Capitol building;
  • Review and ratify the state's contracts with employee groups; and
  • Address issues of mutual interest and concern of legislator's from Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Manitoba.

Legislative accomplishments supported by Morrie in 2009-10 include:

  • Balancing the state's budget without raising income or sales taxes during difficult economic times;
  • Funding for needed capital improvement projects;
  • Taking action to improve the actuarial soundness of pension funds.
